Once upon a time, mentioning that you dabbled in the occult or practiced witchcraft would’ve had you burned at the stake. Nowadays, views on practitioners are far more relaxed – and even celebrities have started announcing their affinity for the craft. From tarot readings, psychics, and healing crystals, to adhering to Pagan and Wiccan rituals, famous faces across Hollywood have been embracing their witchy side. With so many celebrities invoking their spiritual side, it truly feels like the season of the witch. Here is a round-up of some of the most out and proud members of the celebrity coven.
Giselle Bündchen
Prior to Tom Brady’s games, his former wife – Brazilian model Giselle Bündchen – would, according to Brady, make a “little altar.”

This set-up would be full of healing stones alongside which Bündchen would recite positive mantras. Both elements are common Pagan practices.
Lana del Rey
Although neither Pagan or Wiccan, singer Lana del Rey has announced herself as a Mystic. Mystics believe in the power of thought to influence the world around us.

Speaking to NME.com, she shared, “I really do believe that words are one of the last forms of magic and I’m a bit of a mystic at heart.”
Spencer Pratt
After being removed from The Hills, reality star Spencer Pratt turned his life around with the help of healing crystals.

Pratt believes in their abilities so strongly that he even put his name on them and runs his own store, Pratt Daddy.
Azealia Banks
Azealia Banks has been very open about her practicing of witchcraft. In 2006, the controversial rapper made headlines when she posted some spooky videos.

Banks showcased a blood-stained and feather-covered closet she reportedly used for animal sacrifices, and explained it had gotten into that condition after “three years worth of brujería (witchcraft).”
Mary Kate and Ashley
Whilst their younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, plays a Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Mary Kate and Ashley are the real practitioners.

Although not strictly adhering to any religion, the twins have shared a reliance on burning sage to cleanse spaces of negativity and evil spirits.
Sammy Davis Jr.
The multi-hyphen talent that was the late Sammy Davis Jr. spent a portion of his life living as a Satanist.

Sammy became fascinated with Satanism after accidentally attending an occult party. The star joined the church for a time, but left when the parties started to change.
Patrick Swayze
In Point Break, the late Patrick Swayze played the spiritual bank robber, Bodhi. The character won over FBI agent Johnny Utah with his calming outlook on the world.

In real life, Swayze was very vocal about his beliefs in the power of crystals. The star had an extensive collection and viewed one of them as being his magic wand due to the luck it gave him.
Florence Welch
Lead singer of Florence and the Machine, Florence Welch, has admitted to having dabbled in witchcraft when in middle school. The singer shared with Vice that her and some friends even had a coven.

“One time, I tried to make one of my classmates fall in love with me so me and my coven put his name in a bottle… I don’t know if it ever worked,” she recalled.
Brad Pitt
During his marriage to Jennifer Aniston, Brad Pitt met psychic Ron Bard. The psychic reportedly told Pitt he would meet someone who would completely change his life. Months later, Pitt met Angelina Jolie.

Then years into his relationship with Jolie, Bard shared that their union would not last as Pitt was fated to marry again. Jolie and Pitt have since divorced, though Pitt has yet to marry again.
Jimmy Page
Rock musicians have a long-standing reputation of being in league with the devil. Whilst for the majority of bands this is false, Led Zeppelin proved otherwise.

Guitarist Jimmy Page was an open Satanist, one who was even rumored to have sold his soul to the Devil.
Avril Lavigne
Although having been raised in a strict Christian household, Canadian pop-punk musician, Avril Lavigne, has in the past, openly declared herself as Wiccan.

When asked by the Hollywood Show about her religion, Lavinge responded, “I freely point myself out as Wiccan, although I don’t think it should really label who I am as a person.”
David Bowie
Although not a practitioner of magic himself, the late, great musician and actor, David Bowie, certainly believed in its power.

During his career, he once became convinced that he had been hexed by witches and reportedly turned to a White Witch to help remove the curse.
Matt Skiba
Whilst his Blink-182 bandmate Tom DeLonge is out chasing aliens, guitarist Matt Skiba is a Pagan witch who relies on his intuition.

In 2017, Skiba’s witchy intuition informed him that the Fyre Festival, where Blink-182 were set to play, was going to be a disaster. The band ultimately cancelled and the event was indeed deemed a disaster by those that attended.
Aubrey Plaza
Although she does not identify as Wiccan, The White Lotus’ Aubrey Plaza has admitted to following her own specific brand of witchcraft. Plaza told Marie Claire that she deals with the universe in a “different way.”

She explained, “I call them spells, but they’re not spells in the way people think. I love smoking out negative energy.” She went on to share that she mixes her own potions inside a chalice.
Rachel True
Even before she was cast in The Craft, actress Rachel True was already studying tarot. To this day, she believes that it was this that helped land her the part of Rochelle.

Nowadays, True maintains her witchy persona; alongside her acting work and public appearances, she is also a professional tarot reader.
Björk
Although Icelandic singer Björk has never openly confirmed her Pagan beliefs, there are clear elements of Pagan iconography within her body of work.

In addition, Björk’s band, Kukl, translates as ‘Witchcraft’ and she has played both a witch in The Northman, and a witch’s daughter in The Juniper Tree.
Grimes
Before going on to have children with Elon Musk, musician Grimes was a teenage witch. One encounter was especially spooky; she told Fader “I was casting a spell, but the rosary crumbled in my hands.”

The experience didn’t put her off, telling Dazed in 2019 that she had recently “performed a spell to save the life of someone important to me and it dramatically worked.”
Fiona Horne
Musician Fiona Horne left her job as lead singer of Australia’s electro-rock band, Def FX, for a career writing about modern witchcraft.
